New from South Africa

Postby pvdw » Sun Aug 27, 2017 9:21 pm

Hi all Lithopaholics.

I live in Pretoria in SA. Unfortunatly no Lithops in my area. Closest would be most Leslie spesies but not closer than about 100km from me.

I had several nice plants as a school boy is the late 80s but all died during my 4 years studies in the big city away from home. I never lost the love for lithops but maried live and raising 2 boys took most of my time. Now that my youngest is done with school I have some Lithop time again.

The only time I have seen Lithops in the wild was on one of my huntng trips close to a small town calles Prieska. As I sat in the veld resting and wIting for springbuck I noticed a Lithop at my feet hiding from the African sun. In hindsight I think it must have been one of the Scwantesii spesies. I am making plans to go and do Lithops sightsee next year so lets hold thumbs I can go and so can share my picks with you.

I do have 2 or 3 very experienced mentors over here but I would love to learn from you as well.

Thanks for the opertunity to share.

Peet van der Walt.

A warm welcome to the forum Peet, I look forward to any photos of Lithops, especially in the wild.

Hi Allen. Thanks for your welcome.

I am currently washing about 60 capsules to obtain seed. I am prepping everything to start planting mid September. Will do about 96 pots for now. Al of them Cole species with 2 or 3 cultivars in between. Lets hold thumbs for a good reward.

Thanks a lot. I love the interaction of growers under different conditions.
